I try to set an alt text to an image in a locale, I get the toast saying: “Asset updated successfully!” with the asset not updating at all.

Sorry, I think you found a subtle UI bug! If you edit an image’s alt text while in a different locale, we accidentally default to setting that as the default value for the primary locale (often English), not the one you’re currently in:
To work around this bug, could you please try again but UNCHECK that toggle in the lower left “Set values as the asset’s default for English”? That will correctly set it in Finnish then.
Sorry about that! I’ll report it and let you know once it’s fixed.
(Edit: Also, please check that same image in English to make sure the English alt text wasn’t accidentally overwritten by the Finnish one. Sorry!)
This should be fixed now, and editing the alt text for another locale inside a block will now correctly save THAT locale’s default instead of the primary one. If you edit another Finnish alt text, you won’t overwrite the English one any longer. Sorry about that, and thank you again for the report
