This is a minor request but useful for content editors.
It would be really cool if you could support sorting values alphabetically in the select field. Either by label or value. This way presentation mode in select dropdown would be sorted and easier to find:

The ordering should depend on the settings on the linked model. If you open the “Additional settings” for your Department model you should see something like this, to control the default ordering of the collection:
